October 2010

This landscape was pieced together from a number of shots on the Phase One back. It has the potential to print at up to 12 foot by 4, when the composition makes more sense.

I had in mind Magritte's 'The Empire of Lights'. Luckily, even one of the birds reminds me of his seagull image.

More misunderstandings with car park operators, this time local. I was asked to desist and this time didn't bother to refer to any abstract expressionists. Maybe the medium format camera and heavy tripod made them fear there was some subterfuge involved. Here's one - make your mind up as to the security risks involved.

Pembrokeshire

Apologies to the car park operators in Tenby who questioned my motivation in shooting this picture. Despite my denials ("It reminds me of Jasper Johns") they decided I was reporting to the council on their sloppy signage and were planning to get the paint stripper out.

Ireland

I first visited Northern Ireland only recently. the County Antrim coast is stunning and rather poorly represented by these pictures from a too-short visit.

Amsterdam

Expecting to see a heritage monument, the city in fact seems to be an enormous building site, and they are intent on creating a new monument to modernity. The picture is rectangular.

Of particular interest is the eastern docks area which has a large number of individual architect-designed homes.

The heritage remains worth seeing, of course. In particular, one comes across interiors that seem to have come straight from Vermeer.
